Akku-Staubsauger im Test: what German institutes measure — and how OEM programmes prepare for it
In January 2025, Germany's Stiftung Warentest put 14 cordless stick vacuums through its test — only three scored gut, and six failed outright (Stiftung Warentest test coverage, January 2025). The Akku-Staubsauger test season decides German shelves every autumn, and the five criteria below are what the institutes measure — mapped to what an OEM programme must prepare, from runtime honesty to dust-emission filtration.

Why these 5 criteria decide the German shelf
Germany is Europe's largest vacuum market, and its test season is a retail event: results from the institutes land in autumn buying meetings and stay on comparison pages for years. The January 2025 round shows the bar — 14 cordless vacuums tested, three gut, six mangelhaft — with runtime and noise the recurring failures (Stiftung Warentest test coverage, January 2025). An OEM programme that prepares for the five measured criteria enters that season with defensible claims; one that prepares marketing enters it with risk.
#1. Reinigungsleistung — cleaning performance on hard floor and carpet
What is measured: pickup on hard floor and carpet at the tested setting, plus edge behaviour. What decides it: the airflow build, not the wattage label — in the benchmarked line, two 100 W platforms deliver 9 and 12 kPa respectively, a 33% spread at identical input. OEM prep: publish the paired figures (watts and kPa) per mode on the model page — the line does this on every page, including the 34 kPa flagship — so the tested unit matches the printed claim.
#2. Akkulaufzeit — runtime per mode, not a single maximum
What is measured: runtime at each power mode; short max-mode runtimes were the top criticism in the 2025 round. OEM prep: state runtime per mode (eco / mid / max) with the voltage platform named — the line spans 11.1 V to 29.6 V packs, and each has an honest mode-by-mode figure in the factory file. Never print the max-mode minutes as the headline number.
#3. Lautstärke — the noise figure that protects apartment sales
What is measured: noise at working power, in dB(A) — noise was a top-two criticism alongside runtime. OEM prep: measure and print the dB(A) per mode; where a quiet build exists in the line (the ≤68 dB(A) light floor-washer class across the range carries a printed figure), the practice is the same for cordless: print what was measured, in the mode it was measured.
#4. Staubemission and filtration — the German-specific sensitivity
What is measured: fine-dust emission back into room air and filtration behaviour — a criterion German coverage singles out, and recent rounds noted tested units no longer puffed fine dust into the room. OEM prep: sealed filtration paths and documented filter classes in the file; the emission claim follows the file, not the brochure. The quality and compliance dossier is where that documentation lives.
#5. Handhabung — handling, weight balance and everyday truth
What is measured: balance, switch logic, bin emptying, brush changes and the small frictions reviews describe in detail. OEM prep: weigh and handle the retail configuration as the tester will — LED display models in the line such as the HJ 150D class publish the display behaviour because the institutes test it too.
The prep table — criteria mapped to the line
| Institute criterion | What is measured | What the line publishes |
|---|---|---|
| Reinigungsleistung | Pickup on hard floor and carpet | Paired watts + kPa per model, 9–34 kPa across 16 platforms |
| Akkulaufzeit | Runtime per power mode | Voltage platform named (11.1–29.6 V); per-mode figures in the factory file |
| Lautstärke | Noise at working power | Printed dB(A) where measured; quiet classes flagged |
| Staubemission | Fine-dust emission and filtration | Sealed filtration path; filter class in the compliance dossier |
| Handhabung | Balance, emptying, brush changes | Retail-configuration samples for testing |

What programme owners always miss
Two misses turn a test season into a listing problem. First, the retail-configuration rule: institutes buy retail units, so the tested configuration is the shipped one — a hero prototype that outperforms the shipped carton is a claim waiting to be disproved. Second, the max-power trap: quoting only maximum-mode runtime invites the exact criticism the 2025 round levelled at six failing machines. The programmes that pass publish per-mode numbers and let the buyer choose the mode honestly.
Run the preparation on your next German programme
Three moves: audit the quotation's figures against the five criteria — paired figures, per-mode runtime, printed noise; hold a retail-configuration sample in test condition; and confirm the compliance dossier covers filtration documentation. A quotation that survives those three checks is a programme ready for the German test season — and for the German shelf that reads its results.
