Industrial wet and dry vacuums: the five spec tiers facility buyers actually compare

Two quotations for the same 15–25 L class wet and dry vacuum can differ by a third in price and still both be correct — because the machines sit in different spec tiers. A buyer-facing framework for comparing duty cycle, motor class, tank material, certification files and container loading before you commit the first order.

BUYER GUIDE · WET & DRY VACUUMS · UPDATED 2026-09-30 · FREE TO CIRCULATE

Tier 1 — Duty cycle: rental, facility or workshop

The first question is not power — it is where the machine earns its hours. A rental fleet unit survives loading ramps, misused filters and weekend deep-cleans; a facility contract cleaner needs quiet, repeatable daily cycles; a workshop vacuum lives a gentler life but must handle swarf, dust and the occasional spill. Platforms built for facility and rental programmes (such as the HJ 2402 wet & dry drum vacuum) are specified and packed for that abuse case — 2,292 units per 40HQ also tells you the machine is designed to ship — and ship again — in volume.

Tier 2 — Motor class: matched to the mess

Within one catalogue you should expect three honest motor classes: an entry class around 200 W for light wet-dry duty, a mid class near 400 W on 27 V battery platforms for workshop and fit-out work, and a high-output class at 800 W with 22 kPa suction for garage and heavy spill work. Beware of quotations that quote peak watts only — ask what the motor sustains for 20 continuous minutes, because that number is what your end user actually feels. The HJ 1602 compact drum vacuum at 800 W / 22 kPa sits deliberately at the top of that ladder.

Tier 3 — Tank material: stainless is a market, not a style

Plastic tanks win on weight and price; stainless tanks win where solvents, coolants or hot liquids appear — automotive workshops, industrial kitchens, fit-out contractors. A stainless wet & dry drum such as the HJ 2503T exists for exactly that buyer, and a dedicated industrial variant like the HJ 2507 carries the platform into workshop and fit-out channels. If your market is GCC facility maintenance or LatAm automotive distribution, put tank material on the RFQ — it changes the price band more than motor class does.

Tier 4 — Certification files: what unlocks the shelf

European retail and rental buyers will not list a machine without CE (LVD/EMC/RoHS), and the strongest programmes add GS and the CB scheme report that speeds national approvals. For platforms with lithium packs, UN 38.3 test summaries are a shipping document, not a marketing one — your freight forwarder will ask. Confirm at quotation stage which of these the factory can produce inside 24 hours; that single question filters suppliers faster than any spec sheet. The quality and compliance dossier page lists what should be in that pack.

Tier 5 — Container loading: the landed-cost tier nobody negotiates

Industrial buyers compare price per unit; importers should compare price per container. The same drum platform can load 200 units per 40HQ — or 2,292 — depending on carton engineering. Mixed-model loading matters even more: most first orders combine drum vacuums with stick vacuums and floor washers to fill the cube. The container loading guide walks through the arithmetic, and the industrial applications guide maps which tier sells into which facility contract.

The pre-quotation checklist

  • Duty cycle named: rental, facility contract or workshop — and the platform matched to it
  • Sustained (not peak) motor rating, with battery voltage stated for cordless drums
  • Tank material explicit — plastic or stainless — and justified for your market
  • CE / GS / CB files confirmed at quotation; UN 38.3 for any lithium platform
  • Units per 40HQ quoted per model, plus a mixed-container plan for the first order

One-question supplier screen: ask for CE + GS + CB files and units-per-40HQ together with the quotation. Suppliers that answer inside 24 hours already ship at industrial volume — the rest are still finding a factory. If you are building a fleet rather than a first order, the commercial fleet guide continues from here.
