Cordless Steam Mop vs Corded: 30 Days of Factory Testing

You've seen the YouTube head-to-heads. You've seen "one CLEAR winner" thumbnails. Here's the boring truth from a factory floor that makes both kinds: neither wins everywhere — and the deciding factor isn't what reviewers say it is.

The 3 numbers that actually decide it

MetricCorded (1120–1550W class)Cordless (our EM-522 class)
Heat-up25s–8min depending on boiler30s (instant-heat series: 15s)
Steam pressure3.5–4bar (canister class)1.5bar — fine for sealed floors, weaker on grout
RuntimeUnlimited (cord dragging)10–20min per 500ml refill
Floor dry timeSlightly wetter passDrier pass — less water, hotter contact

Where cordless genuinely wins (and reviewers under-report it)

Daily quick cleans. A corded unit's setup cost (outlet hunt, cord drag, cord unwind) kills the "quick 5-minute kitchen pass". Over 30 days our cordless unit was used 3.2× more often — same reason cordless stick vacuums ate corded ones. Frequency beats power for maintenance cleaning.

Where corded still wins — honestly

Grout lines and heavy grease. A 3.5–4bar canister unit (our EM-202/203 class) strips oven grease in a way no 1.5bar cordless unit matches. If your buyer is a deep-clean once a week household: corded canister. Daily maintenance + small apartment + bathroom tiles: cordless.

The "16-second heat-up" claim — our own data

Our instant-heat series (EM-318/319) hits working pressure in 15 seconds. Is that a gimmick? No — it changes behavior the same way cordless changed vacuums: waiting is the real competitor. But we'll say what others won't: 1.5bar is 1.5bar. Instant + weaker. Choose by job.

For distributors: what this means for your shelf

Stock both, position by use-case, price the cordless at the impulse tier (FOB $27–43 for mop+polisher 2-in-1 class) and the canister as the "serious cleaner" tier. Mixed containers OK — same factory, same CE file.
